A Twist of Fate: What Happened to the Children Found in the Woods

He picked the children up from school early, meeting them with flowers. At home, he sat them on the sofa. “Kids, do you know what a DNA test is? Leo, you are my son. My real, biological son.”

Then he turned to the little girl. “And you, sunshine, you may not be my daughter by blood, but I will love you like you are my very own.” Ellie hugged him. “I don’t care. You’re the best dad in the world.”

Leo started to cry. “So Mom wasn’t lying. She always said my real dad was a good man.” The children threw their arms around Sam.

“Your mother planned everything perfectly,” Sam said, looking at the teddy bear. “She left him for you on purpose, so he would lead you to me.”

Three months passed. Sam officially adopted Ellie and was legally recognized as Leo’s father. A framed photo of Mary hung on the wall, and the teddy bear had a place of honor on the dresser.

Six months later, while going through Mary’s old things, Sam found a note in the pocket of her coat: “If anything happens to the children, the bear will help. It always brought me luck. The right people will understand.”
