After that night Eleanor began avoiding Evan around the house. A friend soon found her a good rental, and she started packing. At the door, Evan surprised her and asked why she was leaving so suddenly. Eleanor said she’d gotten a call from her friend about the new place and insisted she didn't want to be a burden.
Evan stepped closer and asked why she thought she was a burden, or how he might have offended her. Eleanor admitted, haltingly, that it wasn’t his fault—she was scared of how deeply she’d come to care for him.
